Lecture by Dr. Lisa Bersales on Statistics and the Social Sciences

Dr. Bersales Pubmat

On July 29, 2019, Dr. Lisa Bersales presented the official statistics from Philippine Statistics Authority during PSSC’s forum, “Statistics and the Social Sciences: Responding to Social Issues”. The forum aimed to increase awareness of the official statistics generated by the Philippine Statistics Authority and advocate for the use of these statistics in the visioning, program planning, research, and training projects of the various social science disciplines.

In her lecture, she discussed the richness of the data from the Philippine Statistics Authority. She discussed its availability and how social scientists can use it to produce research responding to the current needs of society. She started with a call to action for social scientists, to “persuade and perturb” them, in filling in the gaps of information left behind by data scientists. An emphasis was given on how a strong partnership between social scientists and data scientists is important to produce more research and to meet our aspirations for development.
