Dr. Gabriel U. Iglesias is a scholar of Public Administration with notable contributions in the field as an educator and a consultant. He was a Professor at the College of Public Administration at the University of the Philippines (UP)[1] and held the Deanship position at the UP College of Public Administration from 1987 to 1989.[2] He also presided over the Philippine Political Science Association[3] where he served as a member of the Editorial Board of its official journal, the Philippine Journal of Public Administration.[4]
Dr. Iglesias was the Chairperson of the Philippine Social Science Council in 1978. In 1984, he became part of its Institutional Development Committee under the Chairpersonship of Cesar Macuja.[5] He also served as a member of the Council’s Social Issues Committee in 1988, and a member of the Council’s Task Force in the same year.[6] The following year, 1989, he was elected as the Vice Chairperson of the PSSC Governing Council and a member of its By-laws Committee.[7]
He has contributed to numerous articles in a variety of industries, including agriculture in the Philippines, food and nutrition, transportation, and public enterprises. With his knowledge, he was asked to serve as a consultant for the UN Asian and Pacific Development Administration Center’s Public Administration Training from November 1978 to June 1980. He also worked as a specialist in administrative organization at the UN Asian and Pacific Development and Management Development Center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from July 1980 to June 1981.[8]
Some of his publications published in the University of the Philippines include policy reviews, implementation, and management of the country’s food and nutrition programs. One of these is The National Rice Self-sufficiency Program of the Philippines: A Case Study in the Implementation of a Development Program published in 1976. His works also include the management of rural development projects, coordination of public enterprises, and the management of the country’s transport sector, among others.[9] He earned a Ph.D. in public administration from the University of Sussex in East Sussex, England after earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the same field at the University of the Philippines (UP).[10]
