Maria Caridad N. Tarroja is a licensed Clinical Psychologist, and is a certified Assessment and Clinical Psychologist of the Psychological Association of the Philippines (PAP)[1]. She has a Master of Arts in Psychology, majoring in Counseling Psychology, and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Psychology, majoring in Clinical Psychology at Ateneo de Manila University[1]. She even received an award as an Outstanding Psychologist in 2016[1]. Moreover, she was a former director of the Social Development Research Center (SDRC) of De La Salle University and is currently an associate professor in its Department of Psychology, College of Liberal Arts[1]. She has also served as the previous Chair and Vice-Chair of the said department[3]. Furthermore, aside from serving as the former Chair of the Philippine Social Science Council from 2014 to 2016, she was a Clinical Director at PsychConsult for around four years particularly from June 2006 to May 2010[3].
Her research interest and expertise mainly include the field of clinical psychology, assessment, and intervention-related research[2]. She has involved herself with various research under De La Salle University’s SDRC. In particular, she was a co-investigator of the studies entitled, “How Filipino Youth Identify and Act on Social Media Bullying and Harassment” and “Social and Behavioral Change Communication Strategies to Improve Sexual and Reproductive Health and Family Planning Outcomes among Out-of-School Adolescents and Youth in the Philippines[1].” In addition, she led studies on sexual abuse, lack out school youth’s lack of interest, development, and adaptation of text messages for the m-Cessation Program, mental health promotion, and even disability assessment in Yolanda-affected areas[1]. In her most recent studies, she has been releasing articles mainly focused on the identification of youth and their actions on bullying and harassment on social media, dispositional mindfulness and relapse vulnerability in 2019, play therapy in the Philippines in 2018, and experiences and behaviors of children whose parents had divorced in 2017[2].
