The Philippine Social Science Council (PSSC), through its Social Science Ethics Review Board (SSERB), offers this training workshop to help researchers understand and apply existing ethics standards and codes in social science research and other research involving human participants (e.g., educational research, business/industry research). The overall objective of the training workshop is to develop in the participants a full appreciation of the ethics principles in social science research, and to apply these in the planning, implementation, and publication of research.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Expound on the ethical principles that guide social science research;
  • Identify ethical issues in different phases of a research project;
  • Know how to get informed consent and maintain confidentiality and anonymity at different stages of the research process; 
  • Identify ways of maintaining research integrity throughout all the phases of human-participant research;
  • Learn how to design research for beneficence, social justice, and inclusivity; and
  • Apply ethical principles and standards in the review and conduct of research.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

This training workshop is open to all social science researchers, faculty, students, and practitioners who conduct human-participant research, and to members of ethics boards/committees.

  • The two-day course will be delivered on-site and synchronously but participants are required to finish a self-paced, basic module on research ethics before the start of the training. The course will employ lectures, discussions, open fora, and interactive exercises.

The course will be held for a duration of two days from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.  

The deadline of registration and full payment of training fees is on 11 April 2025 or until all slots are filled.

Yes. Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion after accomplishing the evaluation form.

PSSC Cancellation and Refund Policy

  1. The PSSC reserves the right to postpone or cancel a training program in case the minimum number of participants is not met or for other reasons beyond the control of the PSSC, such as typhoons, calamities, or other force majeure events. In such cases, payment made shall be returned to the participants in full.
  2. Participants who cancel before the seven-day period prior to the start of the course will not be charged any cancellation fee. Payments already made shall be refunded in full.
  3. Participants who cancel within the seven-day period before the start of the course shall be refunded 50% of the training fee already paid.
  4. No-show participants or those who cancel on the day itself shall not get a refund of their training fee.
  5. Substitution of participants is allowed up to one day before the start of the course.
  6. Communications and notifications regarding cancellations must be emailed to sserb@pssc.org.ph.
