About PSSC

The Philippine Social Science Council (PSSC) is a private, non-stock, not-for-profit umbrella organization of professional social science societies and social science research and training institutions in the Philippines.

Established in 1968, its mission is to advance the Philippine social sciences and, at the same time, serve as a platform for interdisciplinary dialogues and activities. PSSC continues to be of service to the social sciences community by giving financial support to its member-organizations in holding their national conferences; provides supplementary funds for the conduct of research and conference presentation abroad; organizes training workshops on timely and relevant topics; and recently, established the Social Science Ethics Review Board that promotes ethical standards and practices in social science research. It also generates new knowledge through the conduct of research and publication of books.

About the Project 

The PSSC, together with United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Philippines, is establishing the Philippine Children Research Network (PCRN) to advance the conduct and use of research on children in the Philippines. PCRN aims to foster knowledge sharing and leverage the country’s research community to address complex challenges affecting Filipino children. Through research, training, advocacy, and policy formulation, PCRN will generate evidence-based interventions to uphold children’s rights and well-being.

Network Specialist

REPORTS TO

PCRN Convenor and PSSC Executive Director

In general, the PCRN Network Specialist will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination and management of PCRN activities, ensuring the effective implementation of research initiatives, partnerships, and capacity-building programs. 

Specifically, the PCRN Network Specialist has the following responsibilities:

  1. Serve as the liaison and coordinator of all activities of the PCRN Steering Committee, including minutes of meetings and agenda, strategic plans, research agenda, and administrative and logistical/fiscal requirements
  2. Organize national consultation and validation on the PCRN Research Agenda on Children
  3. Coordinate research and grants management, including administering research and fellowship grants of PCRN
  4. Organize training programs on child-centered research methodologies, and assist in developing training modules and learning materials as requested
  5. Assist in the preparation and conduct of the pre-conference ethics training on Doing Research on Children
  6. Coordinate travel arrangements and other logistics, the release of funds for each activity, and the appropriate and complete liquidation report for every after-activity
  7. Lead in writing the project progress reports, and other documentation as may be required in the implementation of the project components
  8. Ensure compliance with the PSEA policy
  9. Provide regular updates to the Project Team, particularly on the progress or achievement of objectives and activities
  10. Perform back jobs related to the above tasks to satisfy all project reports if found inadequate without additional cost to PSSC or UNICEF Philippines, and
  11. Perform other PCRN-related tasks assigned by the PCRN Convenor or PSSC Executive Director.

Qualifications

  1. Knowledge, skills, and abilities
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
    • Knowledge of GSuite programs, MS Office programs
    • Able to travel frequently and independently to project sites
    • Able to work well in a multi-task environment, independently and with a team
    • Able to prioritize assignments to meet deadlines

  1. Training and experience
    • A bachelor’s degree in any social science discipline is required, with preference given to candidates with fieldwork experience and a background in Community Development, Family Life and Child Development, Early Childhood, Anthropology, Psychology, and Development Studies
    • At least 3 years of work experience in a social science profession
