Salary: The salary for this position is PhP 70,000 (gross) for the whole duration of engagement.

About PSSC

The Philippine Social Science Council (PSSC) is a private, non-stock, not-for-profit umbrella organization of professional social science societies and social science research and training institutions in the Philippines.

Established in 1968, its mission is to advance the Philippine social sciences and, at the same time, serve as a platform for interdisciplinary dialogues and activities. PSSC continues to be of service to the social sciences community by giving financial support to its member-organizations in holding their national conferences; provides supplementary funds for the conduct of research and conference presentation abroad; organizes training workshops on timely and relevant topics; and recently, established the Social Science Ethics Review Board that promotes ethical standards and practices in social science research. It also generates new knowledge through the conduct of research and publication of books.

About the Project

With Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc.’s vision to enable the disadvantaged and commitment to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, a three-year initiative was developed and entitled the Roots to Shoots Program designed to address the challenges of malnutrition and food insecurity and contribute to the reduction of incidence of stunting, wasting and underweight among children 0-23 months old. This project was first implemented in in the municipalities of Bombon and Pasacao, Camarines Sur which resulted to a significant impact on the progress of the nutritional status of 0-59 months old children.

In this undertaking, the said program will be implemented in select Aeta Communities in 3 barangays and 2 sitios of the Sacobia Area in Mabalacat, Pampanga and Bamban, Tarlac. The program consists of three main components wherein a multi-sectoral approach is employed and stakeholders are engaged in the following programs: Mother and Child Care (MCC), Food Security and Livelihood (FSL), and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH). Each component focuses on specific areas to achieve the program’s overall objectives.

The Social Science Research Specialist has the following responsibilities:

  1. Conduct literature reviews
  2. Collaborate with project leader in the development of the study instruments
  3. Finalize list of and coordinate with/assemble research participants
  4. Take the lead in the collection, processing, and analysis of the research data (Conduct and Document the FGD sessions and KIIs)
  5. Manage the collection,   processing, and analysis of data
  6. Serve as custodian of all research data
  7. Provide regular updates on the progress of project activities
  8. Resolve any problem that may arise in the project, particularly in the field
  9. Submit a formal request for advances/disbursements in accordance with the approved budget
  10. Comply with the cash advance and liquidation requirements and procedures of PSSC and project partner
  11. Help prepare research reports and the terminal project report
  12. Provide support to PSSC meetings, trainings, lectures, and conferences, including documentation of proceedings as needed
  13. Perform other tasks assigned by the Head of PDMS or the Project Leader
  14. Perform back jobs to satisfy all project reports if found inadequate without additional cost to PSSC

Qualifications

  1. Knowledge, skills and abilities
    • Expertise on science communication
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skill
    • Knowledge of GSuite programs, MS Office programs and online meeting platforms
    • Able to work well in a multi-task environment, independently and with a team
    • Able to prioritize assignments to meet deadlines

2. Other personal qualities

    • Honest
    • Hardworking 
    • Meticulous/detail-oriented 
    • Resourceful
    • Diligent

3. Training and experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in any social science discipline
    • At least one-year work experience in a social science profession
