CALL FOR PAPERS: ETHICS IN SOCIAL SCIENCE RESEARCH IN THE 21st CENTURY

Cover (1)

In the past decades, countries have grappled with scandals brought by exploitative  researches which have stirred the discourse on ethical conduct of research not just among the research community but also the public. Inhumane and unethical experiments, issues of plagiarism, and data breach have gradually resulted in the creation of ethics principles and codes that would later guide researchers across the globe. The 21st century has seen development in the institutionalization of ethical guidelines and developing formal bodies to oversee its implementation, especially in the field of social sciences.

Statutes and codes notwithstanding, a whole gamut of ethical and privacy issues and  challenges remain unaddressed either in public discourse or policy. Many of these issues  emanate from the constant stream of scientific breakthroughs and technological  advancements, along with other developments such as natural disasters, climate change,  migration, and violence and armed conflict. The initial volume of the One Social Science  Journal wants to tackle these issues. PSSC is inviting submissions from researchers, professionals, and students, such as  empirically-based research articles, meta-analytical papers, systematic literature reviews, or other scholarly work (subject to editor’s approval).

As the One Social Science Journal is a multidisciplinary social science journal, each contributor is expected to utilize social science tools and perspectives that can foster dialogues across disciplines and analyze issues in-depth.

The topics can be on any aspect of ethics in social science research, including, but not limited  to the following:

  • ethical principles and practices of major professions/sectors (e.g., social sciences,medical/health sciences, media/journalism, law and government, education, business,  science and technology) and academic/research institutions;
  • the changing boundaries of what is “ethical”;
  • grassroots and indigenous perspectives on ethics and data privacy;
  • decision-making on ethical dilemmas and challenges.
  • best practices in extension work;
  • ethics in training;
  • intellectual dishonesty and plagiarism;
  • authorship and ownership of intellectual products;
  • cases of data privacy breaches;
  • tensions between conducting research and the ethics review process;
  • the high cost of ethics review;
  • conducting ethical research during a pandemic;
  • ethical misconduct and privacy infractions by governments and powerful corporations;
  • content and impact of Philippine statutes and regulations on ethics and data privacy; or
