PSSC-SEARCA Roundtable Discussion

Dates of Implementation: 7 July 2006

Partner Institution: Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA)

Objective: To solicit initial ideas and topics for an international conference on rural transformations in Southeast Asia

Project Description:

The roundtable discussion, in partnership with SEARCA, aimed to bring together 12 to 15 local and foreign scholars interested in grappling with these different issues on institutional changes in rural Asia.

The program has a broad objective of reflecting on their own and others’ studies and researches and synthesizing discussions on various issues relating to the adjustment of rural institutions to globalization and modernization. A specific output expected of the roundtable is the identification of high priority and non-duplicating areas for research within the broad topic of rural institutions which will be the basis for commissioning further studies and the preparation of papers to be presented at a conference to be jointly organized by SEARCA and PSSC in 2007 on current-day rural transformations occurring in Asian countries.
