Overview
This regional training series will provide back-to-back training on Publishing Social Science Research and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Social Research. The first training is designed to guide junior researchers in the social sciences in transforming their research papers into an academic manuscript that can be published in scientific journals, especially those that are indexed in SCOPUS and Web of Science (WOS). The second training is developed to equip researchers with the tools and knowledge to unlock the full potential of AI as a tool in social research, while maintaining ethics and integrity in the responsible conduct of research.
Who should attend?
This regional training series is intended for social scientists, researchers, civil society partners, and government officers from the peripheries and the regions interested and involved in the process of academic research publication and the ethical and creative use of AI in social science research.
What will participants learn?
At the end of the Publishing in Social Science Research, participants will be able to:
- articulate the value of disseminating and publishing social science research;
- navigate the process of conceptualizing, writing, submitting, and revising manuscripts; and
- learn knowledge and skills to develop articles for submission to Scopus- and WOS-indexed journals.
At the end of the AI training course, participants will be able to:
- examine the advantages and constraints of AI in social research;
- apply diverse AI tools across different research phases and explore cutting-edge AI applications;
- identify ethical implications of AI in social research; and
- navigate intellectual property and data privacy considerations in AI-augmented research.

TRAINER
Dr. Leah E. Gustilo
Dr. Leah Gustilo is a Full Professor in the Department of English and Applied Linguistics at De La Salle University and the Founding Chief Editor of the Journal of English and Applied Linguistics. She has been involved in several research projects funded by the British Council, Fund to Assistance for Private Education, Japan International Cooperation Agency Philippines, Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc., and University Research Coordination Office of De La Salle University. Dr. Gustilo has presented her research works at conferences in Asia, the USA, and Europe. She has served in different positions as a Linguistic Society of the Philippines board member: Director of Publications (2016-2018), Vice President (2018-2020), Director of Conferences (2020-2021), and Director of Publications (2021-April 2023

Dr. Reinald Adrian DL. Pugoy
Assoc. Prof. Reinald Adrian DL. Pugoy, Ph.D. is an associate professor of Computer Science and Information Systems at the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU). He also serves as the Director of the UPOU ICT Development Office. Dr. Pugoy joined UPOU in 2015 and teaches graduate courses in Programming Languages and Artificial Intelligence. His research interests include Artificial Intelligence (Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, Recommender Systems, and AI in Education) and e-Learning Platforms (Learning Management Systems). He has been recognized for his contributions to the field with several awards, including the UPOU Gawad Chancellor for Outstanding Faculty, the Asian Association of Open Universities’ Young Innovator Award (Gold Medal), MoodleMoot Japan Best Moodle Innovation Award, and the Best Paper Award at the Philippine Computing Science Congress.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
The courses are open to all social science researchers, faculty, students, development workers, practitioners, and local government officers and staff interested in doing qualitative and/or quantitative social science research.
Each course will be delivered on-site and synchronously. Each course will employ lectures, discussions, open fora, and interactive exercises.
Yes. The training fee includes both training sessions.
Each course will be held for a duration of two days from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The total duration for each course is 16 hours.
Yes. For each course completed, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion. Each participant must accomplish an evaluation form in order to receive the certificate.
PSSC Cancellation and Refund Policy
- The PSSC reserves the right to postpone or cancel a training program in case the minimum number of participants is not met or for other reasons beyond the control of the PSSC, such as typhoons, calamities, or other force majeure events. In such cases, payment made shall be returned to the participants in full.
- Participants who cancel before the seven-day period prior to the start of the course will not be charged any cancellation fee. Payments already made shall be refunded in full.
- Participants who cancel within the seven-day period before the start of the course shall be refunded 50% of the training fee already paid.
- No-show participants or those who cancel on the day itself shall not get a refund of their training fee.
- Substitution of participants is allowed up to one day before the start of the course.
- Communications and notifications regarding cancellations must be emailed to training@pssc.org.ph.
