media safety updated pub

Following the webinar on Media Freedom in the Time of Pandemic, the University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication Foundation Inc. (UPCMCFI), in cooperation with the Philippine Press Institute (PPI) and the Philippine Social Science Council (PSSC) and with the support of the Nickel Asia Corporation, again organized a webinar of great relevance to media personnel last November 4, 2020. This time, the discussion revolved around the Safety of Journalists and Media Workers in Time of Crisis.

The Chair of the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP), Mr. Jose Jaime “Nonoy” Espina, and the Executive Director of the Center for Community Journalism and Development, Mr. Red Batario, led the discussion as speakers. Also present at the event were the UP College of Mass Communication (CMC) Associate Dean Dr. Rachel Khan and CMC Journalism Department Chair Lynda Garcia, who served as facilitators during the workshop portion of the event. The entire session was moderated by PPI Executive Director Ariel Sebellino.

The event was streamed live on PPI’s Facebook page. Read PSSC Executive Director Dr. Lourdes M. Portus’ synthesis of the event here.
